<br />The advantages of teleportation are easily imagined. Gifted with the ability to vanish in one place and instantly appear in another, you could watch the sun rise over the Sahara, knock back a morning croissant in Paris, catch a few waves in Sydney and still be in Tokyo in time for lunch. Clearly, this sort of cosmopolitan time-crunching could be the basis for a fun movie. Unfortunately, Jumper is not that film.
<br />The picture is based on a 1992 sci-fi novel by Steven Gould, the plot of which has been considerably pumped up by director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) and writer David S. Goyer (Batman Begins). In outline, it still sounds like fun. A young man named David Rice (Hayden Christensen), deserted by his mother at age 5 and ever since oppressed by his ill-tempered father (Michael Rooker), discovers he can "jump" from one place to another, anywhere in the world. In a fit of liberation, he jumps to New York and teleports himself into a bank vault, out of which he then teleports many bags of cash. Cool.

<br />David starts using his newfound peripatetic powers to pay lightning visits to London, Egypt, the South Pacific. Along the way, he's spotted by another such frequent flier, a flinty English kid called Griffin (Jamie Bell). Griffin comes bearing backstory. He explains that the two of them are members of a tribe of Jumpers who've been hopping around the world throughout history, pursued relentlessly by an evil brotherhood of Paladins bent on their destruction. Why, you ask? Don't ask. The head Paladin here is Roland, played by Samuel L. Jackson in a hairstyle of surpassing silliness. (It looks like a swatch of Astroturf after a light snowfall.) Roland's beef with Jumpers is a little vague ("Only God should have this power"), but he's a doer, not a thinker, and he carries a 1,000-volt shock prod with which to disable these freaks' unholy abilities. (How? How?)

<br />None of this ever quite rises to the level of interesting, however. The picture is transparently intended to be the first installment of a franchise, much like, say, The Bourne Identity. Gould has already written a sequel called Reflex and an origin story devoted to Griffin, and I'd not be surprised if he were beavering away on another tome at this very moment. Liman no doubt intends to clarify some of the film's hazy plot elements (the Jumpers' purpose, for example) in the sequel. Right now, though, they're just hazy, and thus annoying. The movie has plenty of action, but much of it is graceless and incoherent. (A long sequence set in the Rome Colosseum is especially labored.) And while a lot of money has clearly been spent on digital effects (most notably when the Jumpers start teleporting buses and buildings), they're oddly lacking in imaginative resonance — they barrel past us without sweeping us up.

<br />The movie's sputtering inconsequence is especially surprising considering the caliber of the performers involved. But Jackson is once again simply the Badass Sam with whom we're so familiar, and Lane is once more pitifully underutilized. (She'd surely play a better-defined part in any sequel, but that's no help to her here.) And Christensen, who's been so impressive in films like Shattered Glass and Factory Girl, just seems miscast — he's too inward and slyly ironic to be an action-badass himself. He's in the wrong movie. And, as quickly becomes apparent, so are we.

I realize that I love photography when I joined a workshop with a master in photography, the one and only “<span style="font-style:italic;">Darwis Triadi</span>”. At that time, I decided that photography is the second best thing human inventions after…. <span style="font-weight:bold;">ice cream</span>! hehehehe<br /><br />I remember very well when Darwis said “ You can be a great photographer only with your pocket camera” (the digital one, of course). He said that photography is about having the sense of capturing life into pictures. I was very enthusiastic during the workshop, knowing that I didn’t need great ( and usually expensive) cameras. <br /><br />Soon I realized that when I wanted to put theory into practice, there is one missing element called “skill” (which is needed to be acquired), in order to get good results. To put a theory into practice is a never ending process for any body, not just me.<br /><br />Back to the workshop. I got a special doorprize at that time. It was an instant-printed photo by Darwis Triadi (with his autograph, of course). The photo was taken early during the workshop with a life-model wearing an extravaganza <span style="font-style:italic;">Kebaya</span>. Darwis took several extraordinary pictures in seconds. He spelled less than three sentences to direct the model. And there you go…the magic happened. That’s what made the photo so special to me. I was there during the process, observing. <br /><br />With this experience, I concluded that, yes, every one can be a photographer. But to be a master in photography, we need practice, opportunity, talent and blessings…lotsa blessings!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><!-- Copied from MySpace.com -->

It’s about my old friend. In the dream, this person had a tragic moment. I felt very uncomfortable afterward. It’s been a long time since the last time I met this friend (that’s why I tend to refer this person as “old friend”…hehehe). It’s a bit strange to me that out of nothing I pictured this person clearly in my terrible dream. <br /><br />Every time I had a bad dream, bad things happened in the real world. For example, once I dreamt about my student in KK and you know what, not so long after that he had an accident. Fortunately, it wasn’t a serious one. So, after giving it hours of thought, I decided to contact this friend of mine. Lucky me I still have the contact number in my SIM card ( last month I had my cellphone flashed, and I lost all my contacts in it). I just wanted to make sure that this person was all right. And thanks God, this person was ok. Nothing special happened.<br /><br />It seems to me I worried too much. Maybe because recently I had too much free time ( or “nganggur” in Bahasa…hehehhe). As a result, I decided to forget the bad dream and move on. I should get myself some useful activities, such as browsing the internet, doing something with my blog or playing computer games ( I prefer the last, you know *_^).<br /><br />Eventually, I find myself searching for some great computer games. This leads me to …. Diner Dash! This game is truly interesting. I’ll get back to you soon, with the result of me conquering the game, ok?! <br />I wonder if there is a reward for someone who plays computer game the most. I think I deserve one. This game has driven me crazy (wekz..). for your information only, I have reached the Star Studios-Day 5..!!!!! but, I just can’t pass through it. (hiks..hiks..) <br /><br />Yesterday, I played this game for almost 6 hours ( I skip lunch), trying to pass all the levels completely. And you know what, today my right arm hurts. It’s killing me. Fuiihh…<br /><br />Right now, I can’t type, write, eat, or take a bath comfortably. One thing I learn from this is ….you have to win all games as fast as you can!!!heheheh…<br /><br />Or, should I find someone to blame for my pain? Then, it’s got to be my student in KK, who lend me the CD for Sally’s Salon….hehehhe. No, don’t worry. Pak Jarwo and Bu Siti, who left for about a year ago, to be PNS. They are now teaching for SMAN 4 Ska and SMPN 24 respectively. i guess they are happy rightnow. i hope so.<br /><br />and there are Bu Kris ( SMP Kristen 4), Pak Dodo (SMPN 5), Bu Ratna (SMPN 12), Bu Kinkin (SMP WW 2), Bu Sep (SMPN 7), <a href="http://www.kakainsideblog.blogspot.com ">ME</a> (metty, SMPN 4), and Pak Basuki (SMPN 4). i do hope that we'll be much more happier in the furture. because i think that's what life is all about. life is about happiness. don't you think so?<div class="blogger-post-footer"><!-- Copied from MySpace.com -->
